Bair Paws® puts patients and clinicians in control
Wakefield, UK - September 2007 - An innovative single-use surgical gown that can be used for perioperative patient warming has been launched by Arizant UK.
Called the Bair Paws® Patient Adjustable Warming System, this latest product from the pioneers of Bair Hugger® therapy allows patients to control their own thermal comfort using a unique handheld controller that regulates forced-air warming throughout the pre- and post-operative phases. During surgery, clincial staff can attach a Bair Hugger® warming unit to the gown to help guard against unintended hypothermia.
Maintaining normothermia, defined as a core body temperature above 36°C, in the perioperative period has been cited within the National Health Service 'Saving Lives Campaign' as a key factor in reducing surgical site infection rates. As unintended hypothermia is far easier to prevent than treat, especially if warming begins in the pre-operative stage, maintaining normothermia with forced-air warming systems such as the Bair Paws system can play a key role in reducing hospital-acquired infections.
The Bair Paws gown is made from a soft, comfortable material, ties at the side in two places and is generously proportioned. When compared with traditional gowns, it may not only prevent unintended hypothermia, but also spare a few embarrassed blushes, thanks to its better all round fit!
